My previous work-out with the triathaletes had been really rough on my body. I had pain in my trapezius, in the lowest joint of my right hand ring finger, and a some pain in my right foot after a major cramp.

So after nearly a week's rest to recover, I was a little excited to see how today's workout went. Luckily it went well.

Not to many problems swimming in the regular open hours. However at one point a rather large guy joined the lane I was in. He swam breast stroke surprisingly well. The only problem was he smelled. I didn't know if it was cologne or sweat, but I was too grossed out to find out. So I changed lanes. Things were going well until an old man joined the lane. He was a fantastic swimmer, but I again thought that I smelled cologne. Yuck! Changed lanes again and finished my swim.

I'm considering joining the above triathalon club, so perhaps
I'll be soon opening the blogs runnrgrrl and bykrgrrl.
Actual I'm really in doubt if this is the right club for me.

They have excellent training times at the pool,
the price is right, and they have a really nice social
atmosphere.

However these are serious athletes, and I am swmmrgrrl!
I just enjoy swimming and holding myself in good form,
my racing days are in the distant past.

My problem is that I just get swept along into the general mood,
and stop listening to my body's signals. Swimming fast is fun.
Swimming faster than really athletic guys is even more fun!

I'll keep you posted.

DREAM OF THE BLUE TURTLES

Værløse Swimming Pool

25 M Pool

Program:

400: Warm-up
2x100: Crawl (hip-armpit) down (tempo) back
2x100: Backstroke
2x100: Breast
4 x 75: Rolling Medley
200: Crawl
100: Breast
--------------
1600 M (45 minutes)

Værløse Swimming Pool opened 2 weeks ago. It is such a fantastic pool, I love it.
There are pictures of it available in this PDF file (524 KB)

The 25 M pool is eight lanes wide, three of which are roped off for swimming lanes, and the other 5 are left open as a multifunctional space (diving, climbing, playing water polo, etc.)

When I arrived all three lanes were occupied by senior citizens swimming breast stroke very slowly and majestically with their heads out of the water.
They made me think of sea turtles. I swam in the large open space for the first 1000 M of my program and moved into the racing lanes once they had left.

I laughed to myself when I heard that they were playing "An Englishman in New York" over the speakers.
I thought it was a funny coincidence that I had thought of sea turtles, and then to hear songs from the album, "Dream of the Blue Turtles"
However when I checked up on it, it turns out that that song is on the "Nothing like the Sun" album.

ALL ALONE IN THE POOL

Værløse Swimming Pool

25 M Pool

Program

200: Warm-up
200: Backstroke
200: Breast
3 x 100: Crawl Breathe 3-5-3-7-3
4 x 75: Rolling Medley
2 x 100: Crawl (hip-armpit) down (tempo) back
100: Backstroke
100: Breast
---------------
1600 M (50 minutes)

I came at a funny time. The cheap morning swim time was ending, so the ticket lady said,
"You'll have to get out of the water in 20 minutes."
"Can't I just pay full price"
"Of course"

So as the last morning swimmers left the pool, I began my swim. Suddenly I was all alone except for the lifeguards manning the pool vac.

It is nice to have the lane, and indeed the whole pool to yourself. But I definitely prefer swimming in a club. You don't communicate much while you're in the water, but in some way it's just nice to have the same people in the lane with you. They're not "in the way" we you go to make your flip turn, they are a part of the team, and it's nice that they are there.

END OF SEASON

Tonight's swim ended this year's season at Farum Swim Club.

25 M Pool

Program:
400: Warm-up

1 hour of silliness

Mega-kickboards were brought out. We tried to stand on them. Tried standing on our heads on them, etc. A major workout, and tough on the wrists as well.

Then the "rolling pins" were played with. We don't really know what they are used for - we're guessing for water aerobics, but also functioned very nicely as behind the neck supports for back-floating.

Then "catch" over the 5 M turn flags with a water polo ball in the deep end. Treading water that long is quite a work out.

I'm trying to recruit a new member from my club to Swmmrgrrl, hope she joins.

SWIMMING NEXT TO A LEGEND

Farum Swim Club

50 M Pool

Program:
200: Warm-up
6x50: (Build, Easy25/Max25, Breath 3, 5, 7) - Pause 10 sec.
200: Backstroke - Tempo Pause -20 sec.
200: Breast - Tempo - Pause 20 sec.
50: Relaxed
2x100: Crawl - Pause 20 sec.
6x50: Kick - All sides - Start 1:00
50 Relaxed
100: Crawl
-----------
1600 M (50 minutes)

Mette Jacobsen was swimming in the lane next to me. It's so motivating to have a legend in the pool. When it says max on the program, I swim max. I don't take longer pauses, and I just try to swim nice and fast, and I did. It made me so happy when we swam one lane at the same tempo - she was obviously relaxing, but it was nice to look over and see such swimming perfection, such elegance.

This is the start of the Swmmr Grrl Blog!

I have a friend on the other side of the big pond who had the idea for the blog, and I thought it would be more fun if we did it together.
